Villafranca Montes de Oca to Ages, 16km..looking for Otters

Again, not a bad walking day. The exit out of Villafranca was a steep climb of 600m, but the path was wide and easy to follow. Mostly it seemed to be a timber road.
We heard our first Cuckoo today! We have also been on the lookout for Otters, as the signs have said to look out for them in the rivers and streams. Disappointingly not seen any. It was wet most of the way in a damp, drizzly way and on the top of the mountain it was very cold. We had a few provisions, and a break for biscuits and oranges was very welcome.

Robins, a tiny lizard and the cuckoo were the only wildlife today. Part of the forest was beech trees and various birds were singing but alas I cannot identify them.

After 12km we arrived down into San Juan de Ortega, an old Pilgrims hospital, about 1000yrs old. The chapel was very interesting and luckily signs had been translated into English (Very rare).

Only another 3.5kms to go...easily walked. Arrived here about 1pm.

I must be getting used to walking when 3.5kms is an easy stroll.

Pictures to come when Matt (resident photographer) copies them over.
