Modern technology, a useful Guide tool

Up until now my guide for the Camino has been mostly Google and Facebook. I joined a group called Camino de Santiago St James Walkers Group, link here where members share advice, knowledge, and encouragement. I also bought what used to be considered the definitive guide to The Way, a Pilgrims Guide by John Brierley. It was large, about A4 sized, spiral bound and I don't fancy lugging it around. While hanging out with my brother-in-law, Aaron Schulz, who is walking the Te Araroa Trail, the South Island from Jan to April next year we were swapping stories about planning. We were talking about pack weights (my test pack came in at 11kg, his initial weight is 30kg!), solar panels (pros, cons, fixing to pack) and mapping. One Step Fowards, One Step Backwards

Big news, I have booked my outward bound tickets. I am off at the end of March 2018. I have a ticket to Paris, for I dearly want to see Versailles, where I'll do a bit of getting over jetlag before TGVing down to Bayonne. Although I have visited Paris before, I have never made it to Versailles, which I hear is stunningly beautiful. Paris in the Spring is just gorgeous, all green buds, crisp air and hopeful bulbs. So, I feel more and more like this dream is coming to fruition. But then, disaster struck. Only weeks after I went to the travel agent something went "ping" in the back of my leg while out walking. A pain in the back of my ankle and behind my knee crippled me for a few weeks, so that I limped the 4km to school and back with a gammy leg. Eventually when it wasn't getting any better I hobbled round the road to a Podiatrist. His verdict, "tendonitis". 9 +1/2km and no pain

My first big walk after my Tendonitis...almost 10km, round the foothills behind Waipara. The track weaves in and out of a series of local vineyards, so you can do a bit of wine-tasting along the way. Being June the turning back point, Black's was shut, so no coffee before returning. Dang! Despite a cold day, we all had a lot of fun, and best news ever, my left leg was fine! No limping, no pain, and no numbness. I felt very encouraged that my exercises have been working.
